WHAT
IS THE RELAY FOR LIFE?
The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's
signature event to raise money for cancer research,
education, advocacy and services.
WHO ARE THE RELAYERS?
Participants of all ages and all walks of life are
encouraged to form teams and take turns over the 24
hour period in walking, jogging, or running around
the track.
LOTS OF FUN
The Relay is a fun and family event. It is also a
smoke free and alcohol free event. A wide variety of
entertainment for everyone is being scheduled to
include bands, singers, dancers, clowns, etc.
Additionally, we have a cancer control awareness
program scheduled during the Relay, which will offer
information about detection, treatment, and
surviving cancer.
Teams will set up tents, barbecue, cookout and just
party around the track over the 24 hour period to
celebrate life and good times for the cancer
survivors.
The Relay offers an opportunity to salute cancer
survivors as well as honor those who have lost the
battle to cancer.
THERE
ARE 3 CEREMONIES AT THE RELAY.
1. Opening Ceremony---The Opening
Ceremony is an emotionally filled ceremony that
officially starts the Relay. It features hundreds of
cancer survivors officially starting the Relay by
walking in the opening lap. After they complete the
first lap, the other participants come on to the
track and take their turn.
2. Luminary Ceremony---It is an
opportunity to pay respect and honor those who have
lost the battle to cancer.
3. Closing Ceremony--- Everyone at the Relay gathers onto the track for the
final lap, which signifies unity and the official
end of the Relay.
